Namastday Workshops

WORKSHOPS

Workshops at Namastday Yoga are different from regular classes in that they have a specific theme. The poses are sequenced for you to become aware of a particular part of the body, of yogic philosophy, of emotions and mind/body connections.  It is your chance to deepen you understanding of the poses and the actions within them. The pace is slower and more informative. You will get more individual attention.

Sometimes in the study of yoga we can look at the esoteric relationships of things, sometimes we can explore the alchemy of the organics and sometimes we can explore the simplicity of how all things come together.
Lets spend a little time doing just that with these three groupings of asanas and see how nicely they fit together.”
All levels welcome, minimum 1-year yoga experience.

Chad Hamrin has been a yoga practitioner since the early 1970s, studying Iyengar, Viniyoga, Ashtanga and Kundalini yoga styles as well as the Martial Arts. He has taught Yoga for more than 40 years and is also a skilled body worker with extensive experience in Polarity Therapy, Reiki, Jin-Shin Do and Deep Tissue Massage. His teaching brings together aspects of all these elements, resulting in a style, which emphasizes investigative awareness of the body, flow, mindfulness and breath - leading students naturally into a deep and insightful practice.

Aligning Your Heart with Iyengar Yoga: Mindful Effort, Conscious Letting Go.
with Koren Paalman

During this workshop we will use Yoga Sutra II.47: “Perfection in an asana is achieved when the effort to perform it becomes effortless” as the guiding light of our asana, restoratives and pranayama practices. Additionally I will share some direct teachings from BKS Iyengar with all of you.
From 2002 until 2010 I was blessed with the opportunity to work directly with BKS Iyengar and his daughter Geeta. During this time my upper back and chest area were completely transformed leaving me with improved posture, more expansive breath and a more optimistic outlook on life. This transformation was the result of mindfully applying effort in correctly aligned poses and consciously letting go using restorative poses and pranayama.
Koren Paalman, MS is Iyengar certified at the Intermediate Junior III level with a BA in Psychology from UCLA and an MS in Education from USC. She has been teaching yoga since 1995 to both youth and adults in a variety of settings. Koren believes yoga should be fun so infuses each class with enthusiasm, humor, compassion and intelligence leaving people energized, refreshed, motivated and restored.

This 2-day workshop will introduce and explore how a regular practice of Iyengar yoga can help alleviate and manage many symptoms associated with MS (fatigue, spasticity, numbness, gait issues, walking, muscle weakness, neural pain, incontinence, vision challenges, depression). Though yoga is NOT A CURE FOR MS, consistent practice can increase strength, balance, stability, stamina to enhance quality of life.

Senior Iyengar Teacher, CIYT, Garth McLean was diagnosed with relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis in 1996. Upon diagnosis, Garth embraced an ongoing daily practice of Iyengar Yoga based on his doctor's advice. Garth's dedication to self-healing has enabled him to successfully manage many symptoms of MS and keep his course of the condition in remission.
Garth shares his enthusiasm for the healing potential of a dedicated yoga practice with students and teachers at every level around the world. His personal in-depth knowledge of Iyengar Yoga inspires not only those with MS and other neurological conditions, but everyone.
Garth maintains that "While the practice of Iyengar Yoga is not a cure for MS, the practice is accessible to all who are willing to learn. The beauty is the practice can be adapted, with use of props as required, to suit whatever condition the student may be facing at whatever level of ability. I have found profound relief and the freedom of overall good health"

The Fluidity in the Practice of Iyengar Yoga
Fluidity in the practice of Iyengar Yoga, led by Senior Iyengar teacher Carolyn Belko.
Starts March 24th-26th, 2017

In this workshop one will experience the principle of fluidity in the practice of Iyengar Yoga.
Steadiness and stability requires fluidity. A correct practice calls for the rhythm that fluidity can bring. Transformation takes place in the practice thru the qualities of nature, although we are not always aware of them. Namely tamas, dull rajas-excitably and sattva calm light. Here Carolyn will help point out the principles of the gunas and fluidity as the pertain to the transformation in the practice of asana and pranayama.
